About the role

Process Optimisation

• Analyse, design, and implement improvements in production processes to enhance reliability, efficiency (e.g. automated label printing), quality and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop, document, and maintain best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and production workflows.
• Report on production output and related metrics (e.g. bottlenecks).

Quality Assurance

• Establish production quality standards, in consultation with the Director of Product Operations and manufacturing partners.
• Monitor production and external stock assembly processes to ensure quality outputs. 
• Enable warehouse and procurement teams with documented standards, to assist with quality assurance.
• Develop and maintain documentation and tools to streamline troubleshooting and resolve issues with faulty production output.
• Perform root cause analysis for quality issues, recommend corrective actions, and implement quality improvement initiatives.

Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting

• Design, build, commission and/or procure test fixtures/equipment.
• Investigate production systems and maintain, repair, replace, improve and optimise production equipment and machinery and software. 

Cross-functional collaboration and project management

• Coordinating with test engineering and release managers on new products / production runs to ensure quality outputs.
• Coordinating with Field Operations and Growth teams to ensure production rates that meet business requirements.
• Training, coordinating and capacity planning for technicians on internal and outsourced assembly.

Engineering support

• Creating and maintaining product documentation, including drawing systems diagrams for use by installers, contractors, and internal team members.
• Troubleshooting, designing, executing, and/or overseeing experiments and prototype development to improve our various products.
• Component sourcing and procurement support as needed (as it relates to production systems).

Required skills and qualifications

• Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in designing, building, commissioning, and procuring custom assembly test fixtures, jigs, and production equipment for mass production.
  • Experience in basic PCB design (KiCAD or similar) and the ability to read schematics for troubleshooting..
  • Some proficiency in CAD design software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to create 3D printable jigs for production optimisations. Proficient in Python programming, specifically for writing production test and automation scripts.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters and other test equipment.
  • Strong systems mindset and ability to grasp and explain technical concepts easily and clearly.
  • Very strong attention to detail, good communication (written and verbal) and an ability to self-manage.
  • Thorough and considered approach to problem-solving and technical troubleshooting
  • Skilled in soldering (through-hole and surface mount) and proficient with hand and power tools, with strong DIY abilities in designing, building, and assembling electrical and mechanical systems.

• Advantageous:
  • Ability to read and understand C, with experience in Arduino or similar platforms to interrogate production software.
  • Experience with SQL or database management is a plus, especially for connecting to cloud storage databases and managing production test results.
  • Experience in modern automation and code tooling (e.g. git and CI pipelines) is a plus

Key Responsibilities:

• Comprehensive Procurement Management:
  • Oversee the entire procurement process, from receiving Bills of Materials (BOM) to securing proposals, placing orders, and ensuring timely delivery of required materials.
  • Sourcing of R&D components, inventory items, general goods, consumables, and services (e.g manufacturing, maintenance, freight, business support services).
  • Maintain cost-effective supply networks that ensure consistent delivery of high-quality products.
• Supply Chain and Logistics:
  • Manage the delivery of components from a variety of suppliers, both locally and internationally, including handling orders, payment processes, and the management of shipping and customs clearance documentation.
  • Ensure the timely arrival of materials and stock to meet the planned manufacturing schedules.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with operational and warehouse teams.
• Stock and Quality Control:
  • Receive and inspect stock upon arrival in Cape Town to ensure correct quantities and quality, and coordinate the delivery of these components to outsourced manufacturing partners.
  • Oversee the return and quality control of finished products from outsourced manufacturers.
  • Train and enable the warehouse team to support in receiving and quality control of stock and finished products. 
  • Create and maintain records of goods ordered and received, including:
    • Ensuring correctness of invoices, generating POs, filing of quotes, invoices, sales orders, delivery notes, customs documentation, etc
    • Performing the requisite actions on the inventory management system.
    • Training and enabling the Stock Controller to support in these tasks.
• Production and Planning Coordination:
  • Forecast and timeous order placement for day-to-day and cyclical procurement needs.
  • Coordinate the planning of production runs with outsourced manufacturers to ensure efficient and timely production of various products.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance and Engineering teams to manage cash flow and stock levels effectively.
• Continuous Improvement:
  • Develop and implement strategies to continually improve the procurement and supply process, including working closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Review, evaluate, and improve specifications for sourcing, RFQ, documentation, receival processes, and QA.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years in a procurement role focused on electrical/electronic components, with experience in both local and international procurement.
  • Proven track record in managing complex supply chains and logistics.
• Education:
  • A Bachelor’s/Technical degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is preferred, though suitable experience will also be considered.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of the electronics supply industry.
  • Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets and ERP systems, particularly in procurement and stock management modules.

Required skills and qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
• Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in the design and/or operation of medium scale solar systems or in a similar role, preferably within the smart energy or renewable energy industry.
• In-depth knowledge of smart energy technologies, including solar inverters, energy storage systems, electricity metering, and monitoring and control solutions.
• Strong technical background with the ability to integrate and extract insights from energy data.
• Proven ability to work closely with solar developers, utilities, to understand their requirements and design tailored solutions.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and address technical challenges in complex smart energy projects.

Generative and discovery research

• Work with PMs on new products; assessing market sizing, user problems, opportunities for Plentify, and clear customer segments.
• Your work will inform how we integrate new products into our full suite so you need a strong understanding of tech startups.

UX research and testing

About the role

As the Product Manager: Internal Operations, you will:

• Build the Internal Operations technology roadmap: deeply immerse yourself in our operations, conduct research with our operations team and third party contractors, set strategic objectives, and build a roadmap to achieve them. This will be focused primarily on our CRM, workflow integrations and automations, e-commerce platform, and custom-developed internal tools.
• Manage the roadmap: prioritise features based on business needs, strategic objectives and resource availability. Get stakeholder buy-in of the roadmap and keep stakeholders informed on progress.
• Execute the roadmap: working closely with a dedicated senior engineer, and pulling on other resources as required, build out the roadmap.

Required qualifications and experience

Assess support statistics and prepare detailed reports on the findings.

• At least 5 years experience in end user support.
• Fluent or native English speaker. Bonus if fluent in Afrikaans too.
